At 1609 ft elevation you get an excellent overlook of Ano Nuevo State Park and the Pacific Ocean. When I need a good and relaxing mountain bike ride this is where I like to go. 360 degree views of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. I usually rarely see anybody else out that far from Big Basin State Park Headquarters. Privacy is almost guaranteed at Chalk Mountain. Since I was a kid growing up on the border of Big Basin State Park I have been going to chalk mountain for a quick escape and recharge. Throughout the 20 years of going to Big Basin I have seen probably every type of wildlife that lives in these mountains (except Bigfoot) which the Bigfoot Museum in Felton says there have been sightings in this area. If you have ever been it is almost believable because of the remote location and almost nonexistent human activity. Anyway I highly recommend a trip out to chalk mountain for a very nice relaxing day escape in your backyard.
