The 0.3-mile trail is a steep climb to a "tub" 3 feet by 5 feet by 2.5 feet deep that is hewn out of the travertine deposits surrounding the springs. The hot springs, trail and trailhead is Day-Use Only - open from sunrise to sunset. Use is very high and nudity is common at this popular site. The springs, at a temperature of 108 degrees, is located on a bare rock face 150 feet above the North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River. Water seeps through an active fault, resulting in temperatures of 100 to 115 degrees. From the tub, there is a view of Surprise Falls across the river. The tub is sheltered by an open-air roof structure. Although there isn't a fee to hike the trail, there is a day-use fee at the trailhead.
