The Seymour Marine Discovery Center sits on an ideal bluff-side perch overlooking the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz, California. With a mission to educate people about the import role scientific research plays in the understanding and conservation of the ocean, it is the only working research laboratory open daily to the public. Visitors are welcomed by Ms. Blue, a blue whale skeleton measuring an impressive 87 feet long and 18 feet high and believed to be one of the largest whale skeletons in the world. Stop by the Seymour Marine Discovery Center's 20,000 square foot visitor's center to touch a shark, get a better understanding of the cute and cuddly sea otters, and learn how scientists explore the vast ocean.
