    Description

Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, with the Marin Headlands, stands a "secret jewel of the Bay Area". This lighthouse has been guiding ships through the treacherous Golden Gate since 1855, making it the third lighthouse built on the west coast of the United States. Visitors wishing to learn about this historical site, and still active lighthouse, need to hike the half mile trail.
