Kirby Cove Campground is the most popular campground in the Marin Headlands. The campground features 5 family campsites in a secluded cove at the foot of the craggy shoreline and offers beautiful views, as long as it's not too foggy, of the Golden Gate Bridge, the city of San Francisco, The Presidio, and rugged northern California coast. Kirby Cove also has a group day use area, coarse-sand beach, and the historic Battery Kirby military defense gun post which operated from 1898 to 1934. The campground is accessible by driving down a steep, mile-long dirt access road to the shared parking lot. Note: there is a gate at the top of the access road preventing all other vehicles from entering the camping area and a gate code is provided to campers upon reservation.
