The Golden Gate Bridge is an American icon, an amazing architectural masterpiece and engineering wonder that is recognized around the world. Approximately 10 million people visit the Golden Gate Bridge annually to walk, bike, or drive across the 1.7 mile long suspension bridge connecting San Francisco and Marin counties. Even though most people have seen a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge, visiting is a must to see the 746 foot tall towers, 4,200 feet main span, brilliant International Orange color, magnificently arching main cables, and Art Deco styling in person.
The Golden Gate Bridge is open to vehicular and bike traffic 24 hours per day, and walking from sunrise to sunset. Walking is the best way to experience the bridge and takes about 45 - 60 minutes to get to the other end and back. Parking is very limited so make sure you read this parking and transit information from the Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District.
