    Description

Devils Postpile National Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. The formation is a rare sight in the geologic world and ranks as one of the world's finest examples of columnar basalt. Its' columns tower up to 60 feet and display a striking symmetry. Devils Postpile offers a wide range of things to do in all seasons. Summer months offer wildflower and wildlife viewing, hiking, and fishing. Fall brings changing colors and fewer visitors, offering an opportunity for solitude. Although the monument is closed in the winter and spring months, annual snowfall of over 400 inches provided a winter recreation paradise for determined visitors who venture into the valley.
