The best place to stop on your way to Yosemite National Park along California State Highway 120 is Rainbow Pools. A beautiful crystal blue swimming hole is filled by a nice 15 foot waterfall from a creek flowing through the canyon, and granite boulders line the sides of the pool. This is a great place to visit on a hot summer day to get a refresh midway to your destination because the swimming hole is a short distance off Highway 120.
I shouldn't make it seem like Rainbow Pools is a great place to swim, because it's not. The main attraction here is all the rocks you can jump off into the deep waters, ranging from simple 5 foot jumps to 15 feet right at the waterfall, or the more daring can jump off the highest rock which is about 30 feet above the water.
On weekends Rainbow Pools can get pretty crowded, which is why I say it isn't the best place to swim if you're looking to get some good laps in the pool. Most of the people are usually sitting up on the rocks soaking up the sun, jumping (or should I say diving and flipping) off the different boulders into the water, or sitting behind the waterfall.

Berry Creek Falls is one of Big Basin State Park's most popular hiking destinations for many reasons; however, there is another way to get to the falls faster - by bike. The ride starts at Waddell Beach on the Pacific Coast and rides inland through a beautiful farming valley, then through the redwood forest and open oak studded meadows. There is one thing you need to be sure to bring...
